Celebrating Eliza

We had two celebrations for Eliza's birthday - first there was the PARTY. We tried to keep it low key - inviting three three families, plus Popop and Grandma, and gathering on Sunday afternoon at a local park. The weather was just PERFECT for playing at the park, and despite being worried about it, all of our guests were able to make it!

We started off just playing on the playground, and riding bikes around the path. We also made a couple pans of bubble stuff (ask Jason for his secret recipe), and bent clothes hangers into bubble wands, for giant bubble fun. Then we did make-your-own-snack-mix for food. The kids even got to decorate their snack containers with stickers.
The park has good paths for scooters, so we gave Eliza an early birthday present before we headed to the park: a scooter from Grammy and Granddad and a helmet from us!
Snack mix was a big hit and everyone dug right in.
Even Molly and Daddy got in on the snack mix munching.
Bubbles!
For birthday dessert, we made dirt cake! Hayden and Eliza had a great time making it with me in the morning, and the kids at the party were quite interested to see how this flower pot was going to turn into dessert. Eliza was very excited about the gummy worms (regular, not sour) and bugs we found to go into the dirt cake.
sprinkling on the "dirt"
the finished product! look at all those bugs and worms!
When candle time came, Eliza was a bit unsure about blowing out the candles.
luckily big sister Hayden stepped in to help her out.
Eliza had no qualms about "digging" in to the dirt cake.
More please!
Yum!
Then we opened some presents. She got a motorized train engine!
On the way home, this happened. I think it was a good party. Or maybe this was because she was to excited to nap.

The second celebration was just special birthday time at home on her actual day. She got to choose dinner - Daddy's homemade macaroni and cheese - and I made her a cake,  "pink with gummies" as requested! Popop and Grandma came over for dinner. We had dinner, opened presents, and ate some cake. It was lovely.

note the gummi bear detail on the side - take that cake boss!
I think she was pleased with it!
When Eliza opened presents, Molly tried to help out.

here it comes.....
make a wish!
Molly was more willing to try this cake, now she's all 1 and old and stuff.
pink inside and out, as requested.
Happy Birthday Eliza-boo! We love you!
And now birthday season thankfully comes to a close. Three family birthdays in five weeks is a lot!

Eliza did just great turning three years old. Both cakes were delicious and looked terrific. I think several of the party guests weren't sure what to expect of the dirt cake, but it didn't take long for them to become true believers!
Happy Birthday, Eliza!
Love,
Popop
