Anyway, we had a fun new year celebration. We continued our tradition of having fondue, and invited Lori and Wes over to join us. We had cheese fondue (with many dippers - bread, ham, pretzels, broccoli, green apples, etc) for dinner. Hayden didn't much care for the fondue, but ate lots of the dippers. Eliza liked the fondue and even tried to dip in it! That didn't work out too well since it wasn't very dippable when it was at the right temperature for toddler consumption, but she enjoyed the congealed fondue very much and signed for more.
The girls then got to eat the Christmas tree cakes they had gotten in their stockings for dessert. (I'm not sure if it was the actual one from Eliza's stocking, because there was one cake that she found during the stocking chaos and it was quickly reduced to a bag of crumbs as she carried it around.) The cake was VERY popular with Eliza; she has developed a major sweet tooth and gets very excited when she sees a potential dessert item. (She recently signed "more, more" quite frantically as I pulled brownies out of the oven.)
Then we put the girls to bed and started in on games. We played Canasta - Jason and Wes triumphed. Then we broke out the chocolate fondue. A mixture of semi-sweet and milk chocolate, with a little cream mixed in, plus plenty of delicious dippers. YUM! (can you identify what's in all the bowls?!!)
After gorging ourselves we moved on to playing Wii Party on our new Wii. (Santa was so kind to us! It's really just so we can do the Wii Fit program...) We were having a pretty good time and took a break to toast the new year. We then continued the game with great enthusiasm. And then it happened. Someone got a little bit too excited about winning the golf putting competition, and someone(s) else forgot to move tall, breakable champagne glasses. There was a casualty. But at least someone (Lori!) won, despite her party foul!!!
Despite the casualty, we had a great time celebrating the new year and stayed up much later than we had in a long, long time. And then we got to wake up the next morning, same time as usual, because the girls are consistent like that. But at least Hayden greeted us with "Happy New Year!" (and we even got that greeting at dinner tonight, 7 days later, Happy New Year!) And then we ate peaches (local ones we froze this past summer) for good luck for dinner.
So far it's been a good year. Eliza had a good visit to the doctor for a 15 month check up - 23 lbs, 7 oz. 40th percentile for weight, 80% for height. (Is she really my child?!) The girls are cute and funny and changing every day. And we had a fun Three Kings Day with Lori, Wes, and Lori's parents. My Three Kings' Cake even turned out this year!
